The special forces of the Nigerian Army have killed several bandits terrorising travellers along the Kaduna-Abuja highway.
The Nigerian military, it was gathered, chased the bandits to their hideouts in Kaduna forests, where scores of the armed criminals, including the leader of the gang said to be responsible for the death of a former governorship aspirant in Zamfara State, Alhaji Hamidu Sigir, had camped.
The military was said to have engaged the bandits for several hours before they (bandits) were subdued.
Recall that several travellers were abducted by the bandits on the Kaduna-Abuja highway last week.
Meanwhile, the Kaduna State Police Command has denied reports that the bandits operated on the Kaduna-Abuja highway four days at a stretch.
According to the command’s spokesperson, ASP Mohammad Jalige, the bandits operated for two days and not four.
Jalige in a statement on Saturday said, “The attention of the Kaduna State Police Command has been drawn to a publication in the Daily Trust newspaper of Friday November 26, 2021, captioned, ‘Bandits occupy Kaduna-Abuja road, operate for 4 days’. The aforementioned heading came as a shock to the police command considering the misinformation contained therein.”
