Jerry Gana, Tunde Adeniran, Akin Osuntokun, Abiodun Aluko, others Defect To SDP

Former Minister of Education, Prof Tunde Adeniran; a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BOT), Professor Jerry Gana, former Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Chief Akin Osuntokun; former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Surveyor Abiodun Aluko and others have defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

The defection was done last night at the Ladi Kwali Hall, Sheraton Hotel, Abuja, Abuja.

Prof Adeniran failed in his bid to clinch the PDP National Chairmanship position last year December while Aluko had earlier decamped from the PDP to Mega Party of Nigeria.

As gathered, former Senate deputy president, Ibrahim Mantu, tried to woo the defecting politicians from their planned move early in the day. By evening, however, it appeared that the mission embarked on by Mantu had failed.

As also learnt, yesterday’s activities were a culmination of wide consultations with diverse political interests across the country. According to an officer of the SDP, “What people will see in the days ahead is the third force emergence.

“It is going to be a coalition of interest groups from PDP and APC.

“You have seen with your eyes two members of the PDP who are here today.”
