Teachers Sack: Fayemi will end your political career, Northern Youths warn El-Rufai

The Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai has been warned to stop listening to Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr Kayode Fayemi on the raging controversies over the sack of more than 22,000 teachers that purportedly failed competency test in the state or risk his political career coming to an end.

The Northern Youths Movement (NYM), which warned the governor in a press release issued in Abuja on Thursday, said they were not surprised when they read in some online media two days ago that it was Fayemi that told Governor El-Rufai not to rescind his decision to sack the teachers and threaten the striking teachers with sack.

Teachers in public secondary and primary schools in Kaduna State began an indefinite strike action on Monday, over the sack of more than 22,000 of their coleagues. The strike was called by the state chapter of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT). The government however threatened to sack any teacher that joined the strike.

The NYM said it had earlier cautioned governors elected under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC to be mindful of being tagged enemies of the teachers, reiterated that that the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria is the only recognized body saddled with the regulation and control of the Teaching Profession in Nigeria.

According to the NYM Chairman, Mallam Ishaya Jato, the fact that Fayemi tried to make teachers in Ekiti State write competency test when he was governor and failed should be enough for Governor El-Rufai to reject his (Fayemi) advice on the introduction of the test in Kaduna State.

The NYM contended that there was no how anyone can justified the sack of about 22, 000 teachers in just one State and at once.

The youths also asked how pass mark for an examination be fixed at 75 per cent, querying the possibility of even Governor El-Rufai and Fayemi, who they described as his adviser making up to 75 per cent in the test.

The youths reiterated their call to governors in the north not to allow Dr Fayemi to raise fund for his governorship ambition in Ekiti State at the expense of teachers in the north and their families that will suffer for their sack.
