Ekiti State governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose on Tuesday at the Government
House, Ado Ekiti, signed the 2016 revised appropriation bill into law.
The bill which was jacked up to N70.5 billion from N67 billion has the Ado/Ikere road
dualisation captured in it. The governor in his comments explained why the
money initially meant for the construction of an airport would be used to
finance other projects.
Fayose said: “the law contemplated the need to have an airport but in the
course of the year, circumstances beyond us, because of the court
judgment, we couldn’t proceed. When we have such funds, we have to use
them appropriately to serve the need of the people, in view of this, we
are compelled to notify the house officially and have them review the law
to show the good intention of this government to serve our people”.
Asked why the revised bill was being signed into law at a time the
government was already preparing the 2017 budget, Governor Fayose said: “we
have to comply with laid down procedures and best practices, this is only
important that the government, the executive doesn’t spend money out of
budgetary provision. This revised budget doesn’t disturb that of 2017.”
