A pro-Edo State Governorship candidate, Godwin Obaseki, campaign group, Edo Green Movement, has said events after the suspension of the poll justified the decision to shift the election for security reasons.
A statement issued in Benin-City, the state capital, on Saturday by the group’s coordinator Mr. Felix Akeme, noted that the joint action by the police, Department of State Services and the Independent National Electoral Commission to postpone the election “actually saved the state from bloodbath.”
The group commended the security agencies for their foresight and added that the alarm of violence earlier raised by them was being addressed.
According to the group, Governor Adams Oshiomole earlier raised the alarm about some suspected militants trying to invade the state during the election to cause mayhem.
It stated, “It is on record that the Obaseki, is a man well known for his peaceful disposition. He has carried out peaceful campaigns to every nook and cranny of Edo State despite violent attacks on his supporters.’’
The group also called on members of the public to be vigilant and to report any suspicious movements to law enforcement agents.
