#EdoDecides: INEC finally succumb to pressure; to postpone election for two weeks

The Independent National Electoral Commission has finally bowed to pressure by
postponing the Edo State governorship election by two weeks.

A national commissioner at the commission said the  Chairman of the commission, Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu, and other national officials of the commission are planning to address a press conference shortly.

The election had earlier been scheduled for Saturday September 10, 2016.

Earlier, the electoral umpire announced that it will continue with the
election as scheduled despite security threats.

Recall that Police and the Department of State Services (DSS) called for the postponement of the election on security grounds. The two agencies released a statement on Wednesday citing “credible intelligence” indicating a plot by hoodlums to disrupt the polls and attack residents.
